The Very Rev Robert Murray Waddington was Dean of Manchester in the last quarter of the 20th Century.
Born in Bognor Regis[1] on 24 October 1927,[2] he was educated at Dulwich College and Selwyn College, Cambridge and ordained in 1954.[3] he began his career at St John’s, Bethnal Green.[4] Afterwards he was he was Chaplain at Slade School in Warwick, Queensland then Headmaster of St Barnabas School, Ravenshoe. Returning to England he was a Canon Residentiary at Carlisle Cathedral and Bishop’s Adviser for Education then General Secretary of the National Society [5] until his elevation to the Deanery. He died in his home town on 15 March 2007.
